Vietnam's Future of Work policy dialogue focuses on teamwork and forecasting skills needs

A Hanoi policy dialogue included skills forecasting, teamwork and problem-solving in discussions of technological change.

On 13 December 2016 in Hanoi, Vietnam's Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs and the ILO held the first national Future of Work policy dialogue. It examined technology's effects on labour markets and skills, especially electronics, garments and footwear.

A business survey presented at the meeting found demand beyond technical skills, including creativity, languages, teamwork and problem-solving. Nearly half had not forecast future skill needs. Cooperation with training providers focused largely on internships, leaving room for joint curricula and training plans.

The dialogue calls for closer coordination between policymakers, firms and training providers as roles change. Identifying skill gaps, arranging workplace learning and building stable school–business partnerships are practical HR challenges.
